The 2016 Damba festival called off

The Dagbon Traditional Council has cancelled this year’s Damba festival in Yendi in the Northern Region following security concerns in the area.

The Yendi Municipal Security Council recommended this after a meeting on Sunday 11 December and Monday 12 December 2016 to evaluate the security situation and implications of the celebration of the festival in Yendi.

The council advised the regent of Dagbon who is also the acting president of Dagbon Traditional Council, Kampakuya-Na Andani Yakubu Abdulai to consider calling off the remaining activities lined up for the festival which commenced on Thursday 1 December.

However, the Dagbon regent directed respective sub chiefs to proceed with the celebration in their respective traditional areas provided the security of the areas will not be breached.

Dagbon has been a flashpoint for chieftaincy disputes.
