A 16-year-old flamingo was stoned and beaten to death at a zoo in the Czech Republic last Friday, after a group of boys secretly made way into the enclosed area.
The three boys with ages, 6,8,10, picked up large rocks, and threw them at the 60-bird flock, leaving several bruised, as said by zoo officials.
The rocks and kick from the kids, resulted in a broken leg, causing the pink-feathered bird to bleed to death.
A technician who worked near the exhibit heard an ‘unusual sound’, and saw the boys as they ran from the area. Another employee called the police, and they were eventually caught.
According to Malac, the 16-year-old flamingo, was one of the zoo’s ‘best males’ when it came to breeding. He fathered at least 8 young birds.
The three kids were all caught on security cameras, and were apprehended by local police.
A police spokesperson also said that, the case is still under investigation, and that, the kids might not face charges since they are under 15. However, their parents may pay face up to $2,000 in damages caused by their wards.
